Seven Cans Australian Spartan After Just Two Episodes

Seven Cans Australian Spartan After Just Two Episodes

2018’s TV ‘turkey’ already has a frontrunner for the title after Seven announced today it had shelved Australian Spartan after just two episodes.

Sunday night’s episode pulled a dismal 524,000 and it clearly led network chiefs to act. MKR will now return to its Sunday timeslot to fill the void.

Although the program’s future is unclear, Seven has said the show will return in “prime time” once the AFL season kicks off.

It’s unclear what led to the show’s lacklustre reception, however, a once a week timeslot and meandering action would partly be to blame. Nine’s dominating Married At First Sight could also take much of the credit for its demise.

In a statement to B&T today, Seven’s director of programming, Angus Ross, said: “Despite the best efforts of a great team on both sides of the camera, the show has not done the job it needed to do in its current time slot.

“Australian Spartan will take a two-week break, before finding its new home in the prime-time schedule, in line with the kick-off of the  2018 AFL season.

“The series will return with fifteen teams entering the Spartan arena to compete in the Finals Deciders shows, leading to the ultimate test of endurance, strength and teamwork and $150,000 in prize money,” Ross said.
