“Serenity Now!” George Costanza Returns In Completely Bonkers Washing Powder Spot

The last Seinfeld episode aired 23 years ago but it doesn’t appeared to have dimmed out affection for Jerry, Elaine, Kramer and the neurotic George.

Now US laundry brand Tide is playing on nostalgia, enlisting none other than Jason Alexander (aka George Costanza) for its 2021 Super Bowl spot.

The 61-year-old comic stars as a teen’s dirty hoodie through the magic of CGI for the P&G-owned brand.

The nutty spot is the work of P&G’s in-house agency Woven Collaborative which includes a variety of staffers from both WPP and Publicis.

It’s all set to the theme song from The Greatest American Hero, which Seinfeld fans will recall was George Costanza’s infamous answering machine message.

Check out the madness below:

Commenting on his appearance in the ad, Alexander told People magazine that being chosen for the ad was a “very, very nice pat on the back”.

“It’s kind of like when you’re doing a TV show and they give you the best slot in television,” he said.

“So to get one of those is, first of all, it’s great. But second of all, it’s really flattering to be thought of as someone that can satisfy that audience, because it’s very large, and there’s a lot of competition for who had the best spot that day.”
