Serena Williams Goes Full Neo In This Cool Matrix-Tennis Mash-Up

As a warning, if you’re like many of us here at B&T and didn’t actually understand any of The Matrix films then this Serena Williams campaign may equally make no sense too.

As previously reported on B&T, the tennis mega star is the face of US streaming service DirectTV who, it has to be said, turn out some pretty awesome creative. Check out Williams’ debut for the brand as Wonder Woman HERE.

The 40-year-old is back in new work which takes all its cues from The Matrix flicks morphed into a futuristic and deranged tennis match. There’s red and blue tennis balls, the famed sunglasses, Neo-inspired hand signals and a host of other references to the out-there quartet of films.

According to reports, Keanu was also set to appear in the ad but had to pull out at the last minute due to his John Wick commitments.

The spot’s the work of TBWA\Chiat\Day Los Angeles and is to promote DirectTV’s re-running of the original four films. The latest flick in the series, The Matrix Resurrections (also starring Keanu), hits Aussie cinemas on Boxing Day.

Meanwhile, check out Serena’s action-packed efforts below:
