Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) has announced it is giving one lucky graduate from the Australian Film, Television and Radio School (AFTRS) the opportunity to intern at one of its radio stations.

SCA said the winner of its Graduation Internship Award will receive six weeks of full-time, paid employment at one of its regional radio stations owned immediately after they complete their Graduate Diploma in Radio at AFTRS this year.

Mickey Maher, head of regional content at SCA, said the award aims to offer real hands-on experience in working within one of the biggest media companies in the country.

“We are excited to be giving an AFTRS student this chance,” he said.

“SCA is committed to recruiting and developing people who have the potential to be the best in their field and this is another example of that commitment.”

AFTRS radio program leader Lisa Sweeney said the award reflects the school’s close ties with SCA over many years.

“Many AFTRS graduates are employed by Southern Cross Austereo, both in entry-level jobs and in higher-profile, later-career roles,” she said.

“In fact, SCA is the largest commercial radio employer of AFTRS graduates and offers a rich and varied career path for radio professionals whose passion lies in the commercial FM music space.

“We are pleased to have this award available for our most talented graduates and feel it further strengthens our commitment to provide industry ready radio professionals right across the country.”

The winner of the SCA Graduation Internship Award will be announced at AFTRS’ graduation ceremony on Friday 9 December.
