Many of the tutors in RMIT’s advertising course have told their students that working in advertising isn’t all fun and games – but the team behind Hungry Talks is challenging that.
RMIT’s Hungry Talks is a student-run online seminar series designed to connect second- and third-year Advertising students with industry professionals.
This year, the team has stepped up the game, enlisting the help of three second-year Advertising student interns, and 13 Live Broadcasting students to create a fully-fledged production.
Episode Nine is a game night special to celebrate the success of the series and relieve at bit of final-semester tension before students learn how to prepare for the upcoming Pitch Night .
The three teams will battle it out for glory in a series of games testing their copywriting skills, knowledge on all things advertising, in between discussion segments with the guests, and “ad breaks” featuring the best of student work.
The guests playing along are paired up with members of the Hungry Talks team, including Kimberlee Wells, CEO of TBWA, paired with copywriter/strategist Perri Kapnias, Matthew Stoddart, group creative director at TBWA, with art director/presenter Ben Caruso, and Hilary Badger, author and creative director at Clemenger BBDO with Christine Nguyen, social media manager/art director.
The show is hosted by team members Alana Wood and Bella Polazzon.
Each of the guests gave some invaluable nuggets of advice, with Howcroft saying: “Good writing is really what matters, and it’s what’s always mattered. Those with the ability to write will rise to the top.”
For Wells, a top tip was: “stay passionate and find yourself a really good mentor.”
The team also scored an exclusive interview with Russel Howcroft, broadcaster and brand design advisor of Sayers group, which will premiere in the episode.
The show has previously featured a range of industry professionals, such as Andrew Hutchison, head of creative and production at Walt Disney, and Tom Curtis, executive creative director at MediaCom London, and Megan McEwin, director of policy at AANA, who discussed their role, their view on different facets of the advertising industry, and advice for juniors entering the field.
The episode will be livestreamed via Hungry Talks YouTube channel on Thursday 30th September at 5:30pm
