The Reserve Bank of Australia has released the design of Australia’s new $5 note.

The note is due for release September 1 this year and includes a tactical design to help vision impaired distinguish between bank notes.

The notes also feature native flower wattle, however much of the design remains the same so people don’t get confused which note they’re pulling from their wallet.

Governor Glenn Stevens said the new note incorporates new security features such as the top-to-bottom window.

Furthermore: “Each banknote in the new series will depict a different species of Australian wattle and a native bird within a number of the elements. On the $5 banknote, these are the Prickly Moses wattle and the Eastern Spinebill.”

While there’s still a few months until the notes come into circulation, the images have been released early so people can get used to them.

The Reserve Bank of Australia will also release a public awareness campaign to ensure people can identity which note is which.

“The Bank has been working closely with a range of stakeholders over the past seven years to ensure that when the new series of banknotes are issued, the public can use them effectively in their day-to-day lives,” the Bank said in a statement late 2015.

“Important aspects of a smooth transition to the new banknotes are making sure that machines that take or dispense banknotes have been upgraded and that the new banknotes are available across the country.”
