Reports: Network Ten Eyeing Sam Armytage For “Big Budget” Breakfast Show For 2018

Not content with the TV coup of 2017 – poaching Lisa Wilkinson from Nine – the Ten Network reportedly now has its eyes on Seven’s Samantha Armytage as a possible host for its mooted foray back into breakfast television in 2018.

How much kudos to give the reports isn’t exactly clear, as ever since Wilkinson’s defection a raft of Nine and Seven personalities have all been connected with a move to Ten including Armytage, Chris Bath, Tracy Grimshaw and Silvia Jeffreys.

According to reports on New Corp news sites, Ten execs are hatching a plan to poach Armytage away to host a “big budget” breakfast show to take on Sunrise and Today.

According to the article, Armytage is off contract with Seven at the end of this year and is ripe for Ten’s picking and its as yet to be confirmed new CBS masters.

No salary has been speculated but after Wilkinson snared $2 million a year it appears Ten – currently in the hands of receivers – aren’t worried about tightening the salary pursestrings.

The News articles quote an unnamed media source that said: “All CBS want is Sam, they want a familiar face, someone who is already a fixture on morning television, and believe she’s the natural choice to lure viewers.”

Armytage, presently on a reported $500,000 a year deal with Seven, has been credited with turning around the fortunes of Sunrise after she controversially replaced Melissa Doyle in 2013. Armytage has not made any public comment on the speculation surrounding her possible move to Ten.
