Reddit has today announced a new Developer Platform a unified space for developers to create and launch programs and apps to run specifically on the platform that will make it simpler and more engaging for users.
The Reddit Developer Platform will focus on improving support, flexibility and performance for Reddit’s third party developers, and will give them new opportunities to partner with Reddit, and build meaningful extensions that the community will love.
The waitlist is now available, and Reddit is seeking Australians with programming and coding knowledge to join the platform.
Currently, third-party developers on Reddit operate primarily as siloed resources for the communities they care about, utilizing limited resources and ad-hoc support. The Reddit Developer Platform will serve as an avenue for these developers to build meaningful Reddit extensions and make them available to all Reddit users.
The Developer Platform team is focused on creating offerings that improve support, flexibility, and performance for our third-party developers. Reddit is also hoping to work with the community to build apps that improve the Reddit experience and ensure those extensions are discoverable and trustworthy.
With the initial rollout of our developer platform, Reddit will be able to provide an easy way for Aussies to find resources and tools, participate in the beta, and get the best answers to their questions, quickly.
Earlier this year, Reddit chief product officer, Pali Bhat, stated that “supporting and working with developers will only make Reddit more extensible and make using Reddit better for everyone.”
