Specialist PR agency Palin Communications has announced some new appointments and promotions as it sets itself to meet a growing demand for health-related communications projects from a range of new and existing clients.

Karina Durham – formerly Associate Director of Client Services – has been appointed as General Manager. Karina first joined Palin Communications in 2006 and becomes the first General Manager appointment in the history of the agency.

Rachel McWhinnie, who has been running a raft of high-profile projects in recent months, has been promoted to Account Manager.

University of Sydney Masters graduate, Anastasiia Nazarenko, has also been added to the team as a new Account Executive.

Managing Director Martin Palin says it is a time of growth and transition for the boutique agency which was originally established in 1997.

“Karina and Rachel are absolute stars,” said Palin. “There is enormous demand for experienced, sensitive, careful management of health-related projects at the moment. This demand is spread across both internal communications as clients deal with the challenges of remote workforces and external communications as companies develop new offerings in the context of the pandemic. Both Karina and Rachel have shown over the years how capable they are of meeting these demands.”

Palin Communications has been collecting industry awards (eg, 2020 PRIMEAward for Corporate Social Responsibility in partnership with AbbVie Australia and Franklin Women) while continuing to work on a range of COVID-19 projects. These include communications support for the National COVID-19 Clinical Evidence Task Force and the campaign by the Royal Australia/NZ College of Radiologists to encourage patients to attend their imaging procedures and not delay treatment.

Palin says the transition to a structure with a General Manager is an important moment for the business.

“Having a talented General Manager like Karina frees me up to focus on client relationships, best practice client service and ongoing business development,” added Palin.

Durham says she is excited by the new challenge.

“I’ve always been focused on elevating the team and progressing their professional development and growth. I’ll also be looking more at how we can expand our offerings and explore emerging health sectors,” said Durham.
