Oscar Numbers: 30 Million Americans Tune In, While Aussies Were All A Bit So-So

This years’ Academy Awards pulled an impressive 30 million American eyeballs, while Aussies didn’t seem to bat an eyelid.

While the number of live tune-ins increased in the United States from 2018, the ratings for the telecast in Australia decreased.

Nine’s live broadcast on Monday afternoon pulled 333,000 viewers according to OzTAM metro numbers. This was slightly down on last year. However, a repeat on 9Gem in the evening pulled 122,000 and was a slight rise on 2018.

The awards show, which went without a host this year, drew a 7.7 rating in adults 18-49 and 29.6 million viewers on Sunday. That is up from a 6.8 rating and 26.5 million in 2018.

“Bohemian Rhapsody” was the big winner of the night, taking home four awards including best actor for star Rami Malek.

“Roma,” “Black Panther,” and “Green Book” took home three Oscars each, with ‘Green Book” nabbing the best picture statuette.

Spike Lee also took home his first competitive Oscar, winning for best adapted screenplay for the film “BlacKkKlansman.”

Other winners included “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” for best animated film and Olivia Colman  for best actress.

The standout performance of the night went to Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper who performed “Shallow”, which took home an Oscar for best original song.
