It may have all ended in a stream of Blues supporters’ tears after NSW lost another unlosable series, however last night’s Origin decider took off with 2017’s second most watched show of they year.

Proving the series’ continued pulling power, some 2.49 million viewers tuned in across the five metro cities according to overnight OzTam audience numbers.

One million Sydneysiders tuned in for last night’s game won by Queensland 22-6. In Brisbane 867,000 tuned in and an impressive 378,000 Melburnians treated themselves to the annual biff-a-thon decider.

It should also be noted the figure doesn’t include those who watched the game in pubs and clubs.

Last night’s TV audience made it the most watched Origin game in history, beating 2016’s first match that pulled 2.71 million viewers.

It was also the second most watched show of 2017, with the Aussie Men’s Tennis final on Seven still holding the title with 2.67 million viewers.
