Slimming company Weight Watchers has seen a 19 per cent increase in its shares since the airing of a new ad featuring the company’s newest ambassador, Oprah Winfrey.
Weight Watchers enlisted the help of Winfrey back in October last year. The multimedia star claimed a ten per cent stake in the company after the company had been struggling to stay afloat.
The appointment as ambassador meant Winfrey will become one of the faces of Weight Watchers’ advertising campaigns.
At the time, Winfrey said: “Weight Watchers has given me the tools to begin to make the lasting shift that I and so many of us who are struggling with weight have longed for. I believe in the program so much I decided to invest in the company and partner in its evolution.”
The BBC report since Winfrey’s appointment, the company has “more than tripled in value”, with her stake reportedly worth more than $US148 million.
And now the latest ad, which Winfrey tweeted out to her 30.5 million Twitter followers, has boosted the shares even more.
The ad shows Winfrey explaining why she joined the weight loss brand.
