Oculus Reveals The Price Of Its VR Headset

Facebook-owned Oculus has finally revealed the price of its upcoming Oculus Rift Virtual reality headset with Australians set to fork out $US649 ($920) plus shipping for a headset. This marks the first time the general public can buy the device.

According to the website, “Rift is unlike anything you’ve ever experienced. Whether you’re stepping into your favorite game, watching an immersive VR movie, jumping to a destination on the other side of the world, or just spending time with friends in VR, you’ll feel like you’re really there.”

The purchase gets you the Rift headset, the stationary USB sensor that tracks your head, an Xbox One controller for games and the Oculus Remote, which allows you to easily navigate non-game menus and entertainment while wearing the headset. You also get a copy of Lucky’s Tale, a Super Mario style 3D platforming game built for VR.

Oculus will start shipping to those who pre-order now from March 2016, the purchase is limited to one per person.

People who pledged support to Oculus’s Kickstarter campaign back in 2012 will receive a free Oculus Rift. During the announcement on the Kickstarter blog, the co-founders Palmer Luckey, Brendan Iribe, Michael Antonov and Nate Michell wrote: “You were there at the beginning of our journey — we couldn’t have done it without you. Today marks a new chapter”.
