Following the agency’s success at the Spikes Asia Awards, McCann Melbourne is celebrating another creative accolade. Executive Creative Director, Matt Lawson, has been ranked the number one copywriter in Australia and seventh worldwide in the Cannes Lions global ranking.
This is the second time Lawson has been ranked in Cannes’ top 10, and comes on the back of a run that has seen him awarded 34 Grand Prix across four campaigns in the past four years alone.
Since his first commercial, the Telstra ‘Rabbits’ ad, Lawson has been one of the region’s most consistently awarded creative. As a copywriter he has won 24 Cannes Lions including 12 Gold, a Grand Prix and Titanium, and has been awarded 17 times at D&AD across seven campaigns, with multiple yellows, a black and white pencil. His most notable work includes Mobile Medic, Pedigree Found and K9FM, and DB Export Brewtroleum.
Speaking of the announcement Adrian Mills, managing director of McCann Melbourne said, “This is an incredible achievement for Matt and well deserved, but it’s even greater news for us as an agency. He’s in the prefect position to pass on his knowledge and inspire a talented and hungry creative team here at McCann.”
Recently appointed to the role of Executive Creative Director, Matt heads up the creative team at McCann Melbourne.
