For many of us Sydney-siders in lockdown, 11am only means one things – it’s time for Gladys’s press conference.

We stop whatever it is that we’re doing and nervously watch the Premier and her team deliver the COVID case numbers for the past 24 hours.

Given the high interest, most television broadcasters now show the press conference live, before returning to normal programming.

And from today, video-sharing app TikTok will also be sharing the presser live.

“We’re supporting the NSW Government to livestream their daily 11.00am COVID-19 press conferences on TikTok from Wednesday 4 August, bringing important COVID-19 updates to the TikTok community,” TikTok said in an announcement.

“This livestream will be hosted on NSW Health’s new TikTok account, @nswhealth, providing crucial information on COVID-19 case numbers, hot spots, rules and restrictions, vaccination updates and how the community can best stay safe during these tough times.”

The decision to broadcast the press conference via TikTok comes as the NSW government looks for new ways to keep young people engaged with important information about the pandemic.

Last month, TikTok shared a live Q&A with NSW chief health officer Dr Kerry Chant, which aimed to provide additional education and information abut COVID-19, vaccines and the current restrictions.
