No Apple iPhone 'buy back' for Oz

With the imminent launch of Apple’s two new phones next week (Sept 10), the company has confirmed its new trade-in program will not be available to customers Down Under.

Last week, Apple announced it was rolling out a ‘buy back’ program in the US, allowing people to trade-in their older model iPhones for credit toward the purchase of a new one.

However, an Apple Australia spokesperson has told AAP that there are “no plans to bring the program to Australia at this stage."

Apple said the move in the US was to make the new phones cheaper for customers while also “helping support the environment",

Tech analysts have said that the move is to ensure Apple customers remain with Apple's iOS system rather than jump ship to Android.

Apple is set to release two new phones on September 10 in Australia, including the cheaper iPhone which tech blogs have dubbed the iPhone 5C. Multiple reports say the tech giant will unveil its cheaper handset – expected to feature a plastic casing – and an updated version of the iPhone5.
