New Zealand comedy sketch show, Funny Girls, has set its sights on hyper-masculine car advertising in its latest skit.

In the mock TV commercial comedian Rose Matafeo drives a Holden ute. As rock music plays, a burly bloke voiceover is heard describing the truck as ‘the ultimate workhouse’. As the car pulls over and a woman steps out: “With a powerful 2.8 litre Duramax diesel engine, it’s built tough, just like y… woah, what the f**k! Sorry love, just didn’t expect to see a woman.”

Check out the spot:

Holden NZ’s general manager of corporate affairs, Ed Finn, told Stuff NZ “We’re going through something of a brand rejuvenation at the moment.”

“Holden is moving away from that gender stereotyping. We’re moving toward a (broader market). I think it’s about moving with the times, we’re much more than just utes, we do a lot of small cars.”
