An inspirational episode of Australian Story proved a winner for the ABC last night.

The episode, that featured former deputy PM Tim Fischer and his autistic son Harrison, was the most watched show of the evening – pulling 732,000 viewers – outside of the 6pm news bulletins.

Seven won the night with 29.8 per cent; however, it was a close tussle for second with Nine (23.7 per cent) just seeing off the ABC (21.6 per cent). 10 was relegated to fourth and 17.9 per cent, while SBS had a neat seven.

The ABC’s strong Monday of news and current affairs all did well with Four Corners’ (719,000) expose into the Guthrie sacking even beating the usually unbeatable 7pm news bulletin (687,000). 7.30 enjoyed 665,000, Media Watch had 661,000 and Q&A pulled 392,000.

Over at Seven, its 6pm news was the most watched show of the night with 1.013 million. Home And Away had 676,000, Bride And Prejudice pulled 668,000, The Chase had 539,000 and God Friended Me dipped to 465,000.

Nine’s best was its news with 918,000, followed by ACA with 721,000, Hot Seat with 485,000, while Family Food Fight continues to plummet, managing only 384,000 last night.

10 did well with the ever-resilient Have You Been Paying Attention? (724,000), the debut of The Secret Life Of Four Year Olds (560,000) and The Project (433,000), 10 New First (387,000) and How to Stay Married (304,000).

For SBS, its best was Child Genius with 213,000.
