Monday TV Wrap: An Emotionally Charged Australian Story Proves A Standout

The ABC’s Australian Story was Monday’s highlight, after it featured Anthony Maslin and Rin Norris who lost their three children when Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 was shot down over the Ukraine almost five years ago.

The highly emotive doco pulling 591,000 viewers last night according to OzTAM metro numbers, making it the 12th most watched show of the evening.

Entertainment shows still dominated the night, The Voice (1.019 million) claiming bragging rights over Seven’s House Rules (761,000) and 10’s combo of Have You Been Paying Attention? (675,000) and MasterChef (674,000).

Nine won the night in a whisker, taking 28.6 per cent of the audience share (all channels). Seven had to settle for 28 per cent, 10 took third and 19.3 per cent, the ABC had 16.3 per cent and SBS did 7.8 per cent.

All the evening’s shows looked to be slightly up on usual, namely due to the Queen’s Birthday public holiday.

Seven’s 6pm news (1.297 million) was the most watched show of the night, beating Nine’s version (1.182 million). ACA had 899,000.

10’s other notables were The Project (533,000), 10 News First (394,000) and Kinnie Tonight (232,000).

In the battle for breakfast (both down due to the holiday), Sunrise (246,000) flogged Today (171,000).

The ABC’s night ran thus: 7pm news (739,000), Australian Story (591,000), 7.30 (573,000), Four Corners (580,000), Media Watch (537,000) and Q&A (339,000).

Best for SBS was Medicine Or Myth that pulled 288,000.
