10 appears to have found a winner – other than MasterChefs and the desperate and dateless – after The Masked Singer debuted to an impressive 1.162 million viewers last night.
Nine’s The Block (801,000) had to take a back seat after The Masked Singer was not only the most watched entertainment show of the night but the most watched show full stop. The Block also got beat by Seven’s Brownlow Medal coverage that pulled 880,000 and 10’s Have You Been Paying Attention? that did 823,000 according to OzTAM metro numbers.
However, it was Karl’s This Time Next Year that got caught in the crossfire, it could only muster 395,000.
Commenting on The Masked Singer’s success, 10’s chief content officer Beverley McGarvey said: “We’re really excited to have launched The Masked Singer last night. The show topped the night as a national conversation kicked off to guess which celebrities were behind the mask. It was our biggest launch since I’m A Celebrity in 2015.”
Seven won Monday with 34.7 per cent of the audience eyeballs (all channels). 10 pinched second with 22.7 per cent, Nine had to settle for third and 21.9 per cent, the ABC did 15.4 per cent and SBS was disappointing with just 5.3 per cent.
In the battle of the 6pm news bulletins, Seven (1.01 million) beat Nine (892,000). ACA did 804,000.
For breakfast, Sunrise (299,000) had Today (169,000) on toast.
Over at the ABC, Paul Hogan’s appearance on Australian Story was well received, it was Aunty’s best for the night with 696,000.
The rest of the ABC’s night went thus: 7pm news (673,000), 7.30 (579,000), Four Corners (564,000), Media Watch (425,000) and a disappointing Q&A (278,000).
SBS’ best was its World News that pulled 148,000 and was the 53rd most watched show of the night.
