Mel Silva Promoted To MD Of Google Australia & New Zealand

Google Australia has announced the appointment of Mel Silva as the new managing director for Google Australia and New Zealand.

Silva has been with Google for more than 11 years and has held a number of senior leadership positions in Australia and APAC, most recently as managing director, go to market strategy and operations, Google APAC, based in Singapore.

Prior to Google, Silva worked as general manager at Fairfax Digital’s Direct Access and she has an extensive product and marketing background in financial services from companies such as Citibank, ING Direct and AMP.

Silva replaces Jason Pellegrino, who joined Domain as its new CEO last month.

Karim Temsamani, president of Google for the Asia-Pacific region, said: “I am delighted that Mel will be leading our business in Australia and New Zealand. She is an exceptional leader who really knows how to bring the best out of people and has a thorough understanding of our partners’ needs.

“Through her extensive Google experience, she has built an in-depth knowledge of the region, which makes her perfectly placed to continue to develop our engagement with consumers and businesses across Australia and New Zealand.”

Commenting on her appointment, Silva said: “I am thrilled to be coming home and rejoining the Google Australia and New Zealand team. There is a tremendous digital opportunity for the region, with businesses and consumers increasingly making use of tools such as AI and machine learning.

“During my time in APAC, it’s been wonderful to see and share stories of the innovations coming out of Australia and New Zealand, and I can’t wait to come back and work with our partners and clients to help them innovate, grow and succeed.

Silva will commence her new role on 1 October.
