Comic Will Ferrell Hijacks The Aussie Open With Gloriously Awkward Post-Match Federer Interview

The Australian Open went from sweaty to bizarre last night when US comedian Will Ferrell stepped in to interview Roger Federer after his first round win.

In footage that’s certain to go global to the delight of sponsors and Victorian Tourism officials alike, Ferrell stepped straight into Anchorman mode in an interview that was equal parts hilarious as it was awkward, as the Swiss tennis great proved his backhands are just as good as his sense of humour.

It’s not entirely sure why Ferrell is in Australia (vacation aside), however it has been reported his production company is working alongside local SVOD provider STAN on a related project.

Ferrell strolled onto the court where Seven’s John McEnore was interviewing Federer after his win. “In the immortal words of Ron Burgundy it’s great to be here with two tennis legends Roger Federer and John McIntosh,” Ferrell joked.

The American comedian then managed to take the piss out of Federer (describing him as a “silky gazelle”), the crowd and even Melbourne itself. Check out the hilarity below:
