Wednesday TV Wrap: World Cup Numbers Sag After Socceroos’ Exit

In the shock of the tournament thus far, World Cup favourites Germany have been bundled out after a 2-0 loss to South Korea last night.

Not that too many SBS viewers appeared interested, with just 131,000 soccer fans tuning-in for last night’s match and very possibly suffering a hangover from the Socceroos’ exit from the previous evening.

In a quiet night of TV overall, MasterChef (847,000) was the best of the entertainment shows, seeing off Seven’s House Rules (763,000).

Seven again won the night, taking 28.7 per cent audience share. Nine managed 25.7 per cnet, Ten had 20 per cent, the ABC 17.2 per cent and SBS mustered 8.4 per cent.

Seven’s other highlights included its 6pm news bulletin with 1.05 million, Home And Away had 724,000 and The Chase pulled 692,000.

Nine’s news had 974,000 viewers, followed by ACA with 815,000 and Young Sheldon with 582,000.

MasterChef aside, Ten’s other shows of note were The Project (533,000) and Instinct (462,000).

For the ABC, Gruen had a good night, pulling 727,000. Its 7pm news had 687,000, The Weekly With Charlie Pickering had 522,000 and Julia Zemiro’s Home Delivery (490,000).

Over at the SBS, its best was Robson Green’s Australian Adventure with 296,000 which was more than double that of its World Cup coverage.
