Wednesday TV Wrap: ScoMo’s Crooked Painting Becomes TV’s Top Talking Point

Viewers tuned in to the ABC’s venerable 7.30 last night to watch a combative Leigh Sales give the prime minister a post-Budget shredding.

However, it wasn’t ScoMo’s reply that caught viewers’ attention, rather a crooked painting behind the PM that caused all the social media chat.

The unnamed painting was the top trending topic of Australian news on Twitter, with viewers demanding someone stop the interview to straighten it.

However, all the excitement of the crooked artwork didn’t give 7.30 too much of a lift. It managed 657,000 according to overnight OzTAM metro numbers.

With MAFS taking a break, Seven dominated the night thanks to its 6pm news (1.02 million), while MKR bounced back, taking 916,000 and winning its time slot for the fist time this year.

Seven had 34 per cent audience share, Nine pulled 24.3 per cent, the ABC took home 18.8 per cent, 10 had 16 per cent and SBS did 6.9 per cent.

Other standouts for Seven included Home And Away (724,000), The Chase (511,000) and the impressive Front Bar (392,000).

Nine’s best was its 6pm news (868,000), ACA (776,000) and Hot Seat (486,000).

Over at the ABC, Hard Quiz topped its numbers with 728,000. Its 7pm news had 683,000, 7.30 pulled 657,000, The Weekly With Charlie Pickering drew 610,000 and You Can’t Ask That enjoyed 433,000.

For 10, its best was Bondi Rescue (399,000, followed by The Project (391,000), a second episode of Bondi Rescue (391,000) and 10 News First (349,000).

SBS’s best was Great British Railway Journeys with 184,000, while Christians Like Us debuted to 178,000.
