Logies: The Block Demolishes All, Waleed Aly Scores Gold, Playschool’s Noni In The Hall Of Fame

Men’s Style may have been on to something when the magazine called Waleed Aly the ‘most important man on TV’. Co-host on Ten’s The Project won the coveted Gold Logie at Sunday night’s awards for best media personality on TV.

He followed his co-host Carrie Bickmore winning the title the previous year. He told TV Week, the publication behind the awards, he was still shocked he won.

“Carrie wins Logies that makes sense to me, you know Karl Stefanovic wins Logies. I don’t think of myself as being eligible for it,” he said.

Aly had been up against sassy SBS newsreader Lee Lin Chin, Bickmore again, Scott Cam, host of The Block, and Essie Davis from ABC’s Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries and Grant Denyer from Ten’s Family Feud and The Great Australian Spelling Bee.

Aly also took out ‘Best Presenter’ for his work on The Project. He was up against SBS’s Chin, Ten’s Denyer and Amanda Keller, one half of WSFM’s Jonesy & Amanda and host of Ten’s The Living Room.

With banter on the red carpet between Bickmore from The Project and Karl Stefanovic and Lisa Wilkinson from Nine’s breakfast program The Today Show, it turned out The Project took out ‘Best news panel or current affairs program’.

In the reality TV section, despite Network Ten having three shows nominated for best reality TV show, Nine’s renovation show The Block swooped in and stole the show.

And in the sporting arena Nine’s The NRL Footy Show won ‘Best Sports Program’, beating out other Nine shows The AFL Footy Show and the Wide World Of Sports, along with Foxtel’s AFL 360 and NITV’s Mangrook Footy Show.

Playschool’s beloved Noni Hazlehurst was inducted into the Hall of Fame, only the second to woman to be in the Logies.

“I’m really proud to be recognised,” Halzehurst told TV Week.  “But, there are many equally deserving women who should have been acknowledged before this.

“Hopefully, the glacier will keep moving forward.”
