Tuesday TV Wrap: MAFS Soars To A New Record & Grounds Planes In The Process!

The penultimate episode of Married At First Sight soared to a record high of 1.6 million last night amid reports it was even grounding planes at major Australian airports.

A caller to Sydney radio station 2DayFM this morning suggested that baggage handlers at an unnamed Australian airport – presumably Sydney – are so infatuated with the reality dating show they’re downing tools to watch it and delaying planes in the process.

The caller, who revealed herself only as “Zoe”, said: “Big, burly blokes that work with me sit in the meal room and will delay planes for anywhere up to half an hour because they cannot get their eyes off that TV screen.

“Your bags are not being put on on time because they wanna watch this silly show,” the mole revealed.

Last night’s MAFS was arguably the most salacious yet, with two affairs being revealed at the dinner party and sets up a rather “messy” finale tonight as contestant Tracey puts it. While Nine bosses must be wringing their hands in anticipation of some monster audience numbers that could possibly go over the two-million.

MAFS domination again handed Nine last night with 35.2 per cent audience share. Seven pulled 31.1 per cent. Ten still can’t take a trick and was even with the ABC on 13.7 per cent, while the SBS had to settle with 6.2 per cent.

Despite the MAFS onslaught, Seven’s MKR still pulled an admirable 970,000.

Nine just pipped Seven for the 6pm news crown, 950,000 to 949,000, respectively. Seven’s The Good Doctor had 893,000 and Nine’s Date Night pulled 417,000.

Over at Ten, its best was The Project with 479,000, while Hughesy, We Have a Problem appears to be an ongoing problem, managing just 338,000.

The ABC’s night performed thus: ABC News (711,000), 7:30 (522,000), The Checkout (442,000), The Human Body: Secrets of Your Life Revealed (315,000), and Think Tank (218,000). SBS’s best was Insight that managed 215,000.
