Triple J Announces 2019 Hottest 100 On The Move Again

Youth radio station Triple J has confirmed that it will once again host its annual Hottest 100 on the 27th of January next year.

The public broadcaster caused quite the political ruckus this year when it moved the countdown from the traditional Australia Day airing so as not to offend Indigenous people. However, in doing so, Triple J upset some listeners and conservative politicians.

On Sunday 27 January it will be counting down the Hottest 100 songs of the year, as voted by its listeners. Then on the public holiday Monday 28 January it will back it up with the songs that just missed out, the Hottest 200.

For this year’s Hottest 100, Triple J is teaming up with Lifeline, the leading provider of crisis support and suicide prevention in Australia after a poll found mental health was the biggest issue amongst its listeners.

Every year, Lifeline receives around one million calls, text messages and web chats, but currently can’t get to all of them. With money raised through the Hottest 100, Lifeline hope to make it possible for their trained volunteers to reach around 4,000 more calls; to listen, provide connection, compassion and hope – ultimately saving Australian lives.
