Thursday TV Wrap: Cricket Has Reasonable Debut For Seven

Channel Seven would have to be reasonably chuffed with its debut cricket coverage of the first day of the Adelaide Test yesterday.

Having snuffled the rights from Nine back in April, yesterday’s coverage reached a high of 544,000 for yesterday’s last session of play according to the OzTAM numbers.

The quieter first session drew 301,000 and the session after lunch rose to 398,000.

Admittedly, the numbers were down on last year, however, that was an Ashes summer.

Commenting on yesterday’s numbers, Seven’s chief revenue officer, Kurt Burnette, said: We are thrilled with the ratings of day one, which have surpassed our forecasts. Seven reached 2.67 million Australians and secured a 53 per cent commercial share of daytime viewing in metro areas.

“Our production and commentary teams have hit it for six, proving once again that no-one does sport like 7Sport.

“And this is just the beginning – we still have the Day/Night tests and men’s Big Bash to come. Roll on summer,” he said.

However, it wasn’t enough to win Seven the day. Those honours went to Nine with 32 per cent audience share. Seven took home 27.2 per cent, the ABC had 18.5 per cent, 10 was disappointing with 13.7 per cent and SBS had 8.6 per cent.

Seven had the most watched show of Thursday, its 6pm news pulling 906,000. Today Tonight had 861,000, Home And Away did 558,000, while Orange Is The New Brown did 310,000 for the network.

Nine’s best was its 6pm news with 824,000, followed by Paramedics with 775,000, ACA with 681,000, RBT with 550,000 and Hot Seat with 448,000.

10’s best was The Project with 357,000 and 10 News First with 316,000.

The ABC did well with its 7pm news (651,0000), 7.30 (533,000), Grand Designs (456,000) and a repeat of Endeavour (316,000).
