Thursday TV Wrap: 700K Tune In To See The Aussies Get A World Cup Walloping

It wasn’t the result we wanted (unless you’re English), but 702,000 hardy souls tuned in to watch Australia get thrashed (and bundled out) of the World Cup courtesy of the Poms last night.

Nine’s semi-final coverage was the sixth most watched show of Thursday according to OzTAM metro numbers.

The cricket also gave Nine a Thursday night win, taking home 33.4 per cent of the audience share (all channels). Seven did 27.8 per cent, 10 had 17.2 per cent, the ABC did 13.5 per cent and SBS did 8.1 per cent.

Seven had the most watched show of the night with its 6pm news pulling a neat one million. Other highlights for the network included The Chase (627,000), Home And Away (586,000); while Sunrise (261,000) snuck in to the day’s top 20 shows at number 19.

Best for 10 was MasterChef (592,000), The Project (416,000), MasterChef Masterclass (394,000) and 10 News First (375,000).

The cricket aside, Nine did well with its 6pm news (844,000), ACA (620,000) and Hot Seat (481,000).

Over at the ABC, it’s night ran this way: 7pm news (633,000), 7.30 (463,000) and Escape From The City (399,000).
