The Bachelor Pulls 846,000 On Debut, Nine Wins The Night

Ten’s reality love show The Bachelor debuted on the network last night to an audience of 846,000 in a five-city metro, according to OzTam preliminary ratings.

The love competition saw 19 women in ball gowns meet the new bachelor, Sam Wood, for the first time, followed by a cocktail party.

Already drama between the contestants was rife with a rather outlandish woman Sandra taking on another contestant. The preview for tonight’s episode promises even more dramatic hairflips.

While The Bachelor was the most watched non-news program last night, Nine swept the night away with its coverage of the Ashes, in which Australia were given a right ribbing by England on the first day of playing.

However, no doubt Australia will bounce back.

The Ashes was the ninth most watched program last night, with 704,000 viewers tuning in on Nine’s station GEM.

Nine won the night overall with a total daily share of 33.4 per cent, followed by Seven with 23.3 per cent and Ten, 19.8 per cent. ABC grabbed 16.7 per cent, and SBS had a share of 6.8 per cent.
