TAFE NSW Marketing Students Go Global

A specially selected group of 10 talented business and marketing students from TAFE NSW have gone global – travelling to China as part of the Australian Government’s Endeavour Leadership Program (ELP).

The ELP is an Australian Government initiative aimed at promoting research and professional development with Australia’s priority partner countries. The program provided opportunities for established and emerging leaders to undertake a global education experience within their study, research or professional field.

The TAFE NSW students participating in the exciting study tour to Guanghzhou were chosen through a competitive application process from locations across Sydney. Those successful are studying TAFE NSW Northern Beaches, Meadowbank and Ultimo and will have the chance to build enduring international networks through this unique experience.

The nine-day intensive study tour includes visits to some of China’s leading technology companies, two global advertising agencies, factories and a DFAT Briefing. TAFE NSW marketing teacher and tour leader Anne Lawler said the tour would give the students invaluable practical experience in international business and marketing.

“TAFE NSW students have been given an incredible opportunity to study business and marketing first-hand, in China. Additionally, our students will have the unique experience of studying with local Chinese students in Guangzhou at the Guangdong Industry Polytechnic.

“China is a key trade and business partner for Australia. Forging professional and personal relationships and gaining deeper understandings of the Chinese market will be invaluable to the ten students selected for this study tour,” Ms Lawler said.

Student Kate Mollison is studying a Certificate IV in Small Business at TAFE NSW Northern Beaches and said she is very excited about this unique opportunity to immerse herself in Chinese culture.

“It’s going to be a very busy itinerary, but we’ll get great exposure to a whole new culture and the different styles of business and marketing that go hand-in-hand with that. China is a world-leader in business so I’m grateful for the opportunity to gain some real-world skills by learning from some of the best companies in the world.”

“It’s going to be a really special opportunity and is a credit to our teacher Anne that we will have the chance to engage with so many exciting companies, giving us some hands-on experience in international business and marketing.”
