Sydney Children’s Hospital 'blown away' by Nine's Oscar event

Sydney Children’s Hospital didn’t know Nine network was raising funds for them during the Oscars’ Luncheon at the Hilton hotel yesterday.

Linda Fagan, director of media and communications at the hospital, said she thought the hospital’s five year relationship with the network and the nine million already raised “was enough”.

“We were blown away when Nine rang to invite us today, we had no idea this was coming,” she said.

“We’ve never been a beneficiary of this Oscar’s lunch so we were thrilled when they asked us. They’ve raised nearly nine million for us, generating public awareness and today’s been an absolute joy. This is a bonus.”

Awaiting confirmation on the amount of money raised, Fagan said the expectations were in the thousands.

“The expectation is five or ten thousand but look, like we said, it came out of the blue and we’re thrilled.”

The event was held at the Hilton Hotel yesterday afternoon, with the Oscar Academy Awards broadcast around the venue and performances by Emma Birdsall from season one of The Voice and Nine’s new show Love Child.

While the Oscars are all about best leading actress, best motion picture, best animated film etc, almost as much excitement gathers around what everyone is wearing.

Indeed, Fagan remarked how her favourite bit of the Oscar’s was “hearing the songs and seeing the frocks”.

Amy Nemles, editor of ninemsn’s The Fix also commented “definitely the dresses” were the best part of the Oscar’s.

The Oscar’s had social media exploding yesterday as Ellen’s selfie tweet with A-list stars has seen the most number of retweets ever, but has been considered a marketing stunt for Samsung.

Read more about that here.

Our very own Cate Blanchett nabbed the prize for best actress in a leading role, proving right the social media buzz that has surrounded her in the lead up to the Awards.
