Sunday TV Wrap: Block-Ashes Combo Proves Big Hit For Nine

Oh, the sweet, sweet joy of an Ashes victory sans any cheating or ball-tampering.

And the mouth-watering TV treat proved a winner for Nine last night after 810,000 viewers tuned-in to 9Gem’s coverage (first session) to watch the Aussies put the Poms to the sword and reclaim the Urn.

Nine’s The Block also did some excellent numbers. It posted 1.145 million viewers according to OzTAM metro numbers and was the most watched show of Sunday.

When it came to the cricket, 571,0000 viewers hung about for the second session and 477,000 were still there to see the Aussies win.

On the back of the those numbers, Nine romped home for a Sunday night win with 45.9 per cent audience share (all channels). Seven had to settle for a mere 22.7 per cent, while the ABC pinched third and 12.2 per cent. 10 had a mere 11.4 per cent and SBS did 7.7 per cent.

In the battle of the 6pm news bulletins, Nine also claimed bragging honours with 1.058 million. Seven’s version took 977,000.

Meanwhile, 60 Minutes (694,000) beat Sunday Night (390,000).
