Shameless Ad Or Genuine Blooper? Big Bash Commentators “Busted” Munching On KFC

If there’s two things Ten’s Big Bash cricket excels in it’s monster hits coupled with as many ads and sponsor messages it can possibly squeeze into a three-hour broadcast.

However, viewers were left wondering about Ten’s motives in last night’s game between the Adelaide Strikers and the Melbourne Stars at the Adelaide Oval after commentators were seen eating KFC during an apparent break in play. The fast food company is, of course, the principal sponsor of the tournament.

Commentators Mark Howard, Ricky Ponting and Graeme Swann “apparently” believed they’d gone to a commercial break and started munching on a conveniently placed bucket of KFC’s Popcorn Chicken. Swann is even seen tossing the greasy bird into his mouth.

Legitimate blooper or convivial product placement? Check it out below:

Viewers then took to social media to discuss whether it was a well-timed stunt or genuine faux pas.

“Convenient product placement from KFC for the ‘accidental’ extra coverage of the commentators during the non ad break!” wrote one sceptical fan. While another added: “Not sure if that was a sponsored cutaway to the box or a stitch up.”

However, others were more forgiving, particularly as the Big Bash isn’t exactly know for taking itself too seriously. “Commentators Mark Howard, Ricky Ponting and Graeme Swann rushing to get their dose of KFC’s Popcorn Chicken! Love it!” commented one fan. While another said: “The vision of @KFC popcorn chicken shared in the @BBL commentary box is about the best thing seen this year.”
