SBS World Movies Switches Linear Channel For Dedicated Offering On Foxtel

SBS has announced that from February next year, the iconic World Movies subscription channel will switch from a Foxtel linear channel to be hosted on Foxtel On Demand, with a weekly movie slot on the pay TV provider’s Foxtel Movies Masterpiece channel.

For more than 22 years, World Movies has showcased the best in international cinema, bringing Australians a diverse selection of award-winning favourites and acclaimed new releases from across the globe in more than 200 languages.

Hosted as a dedicated film collection on Foxtel On Demand, World Movies will showcase a selection of quality international titles, giving subscribers the freedom to watch at their convenience.

Foxtel On Demand’s selection of world movies will feature nearly 100 titles from the World Movies library that will be available to stream or download, on demand, for subscribers to the Foxtel movies tier.

Key titles set to arrive on demand include Embrace of the Serpent andTruman and Julieta, along with films from renowned auteurs Pedro Almodovar, Werner Rainer Fassbender, Xavier Dolan, Wong Kar Wai, Seijun Suzuki, and Werner Herzog.

The World Movies weekly movie slot will air on the Foxtel Movies Masterpiece channel from Wednesday 3 January 2018.

World Movies will also continue on Stan, in a renewal of SBS’s agreement with the streaming platform.

Chris Keely, general manager of subscription TV at SBS, said: “SBS is pleased that World Movies will continue as a key film destination on Foxtel On Demand, giving viewers the flexibility to watch some of the best films from across the world anytime, anywhere and on a device of their choice.”

The shift of World Movies to Foxtel On Demand follows this month’s arrival of streaming video on demand service Walter Presents – known for delivering some of the world’s best foreign-language dramas to audiences everywhere – which will replace the linear World Movies channel from Wednesday 31 January 2018.
