Three groups of RMIT students have been nominated for Future Lion awards at the Cannes International Festival of Creativity.

Nikki Matheos, Nikitia Chilkuri, Rachel Gale, Fraser Nelson, Lauren Moran, Nadia Cozmescu, Julia Van Der Linden, Derya Yakup and Olivia Hearnden were chosen as finalists from more than 2000 global entries.

The 2015 Future Lions student award brief was given to third year students as part of their Advanced Creative Advertising course assessment in the Bachelor of Communication (Advertising).

The theme was to ‘Connect an audience of your choosing to a product or service from a global brand in a way that wasn’t possible three years ago’.

Nikki Matheos, Nikitia Chilkuri and Rachel Gale produced a campaign and case study for ‘Nike Pink’ – a hypothetical product to keep women runners safe at night.

RMIT Advertising graduates also featured strongly in the 2015 Cannes Young Lions competition open to people aged 28 years or under working in creative industries.

Emma Borland and Lucy Downes (DT), and Chris Hanrahan (DDB Melbourne) are among the five Australian winning teams flown to compete at the 2015 Cannes International Creativity festival.

Recent graduate, Cam Bell (DT), was a runner-up in the same competition and will represent Australia at the 2015 Spikes Asia festival in Singapore in September.

RMIT graduates Ellen Fromm and Isabella Caruso (GPY&R Melbourne), Rebecca Russo (MediaCom), James Crawley and Jane Burhop (Common Vultures) were also among the Young Lion finalists.

Dr Julie Bilby, program manager of the RMIT Advertising program said: “It is exciting for our staff, students, graduates and industry partners to have such strong representation on an international stage.

“We are delighted to see our students making their mark as the advertising industry leaders and creative talent of the future.”
