Radio Ratings: Smoothfm Takes Out Top Spots & ABC Enjoys Key Wins

The day you’ve all been waiting for is finally here: GfK radio ratings survey 2 results are in.

While the past month hasn’t seen too much movement across the board, smoothfm has certainly proven itself a winner, dominating both the Sydney and Melbourne market. The ABC also enjoyed key wins across all 5 metro cities.

SYDNEY

Unsurprisingly, Macquarie Media’s 2GB remained in top spot overall with 14.5 per cent – up 1.2 per cent on the last ratings survey.

KISS FM snared the second spot from smoothfm, with 9.9 per cent (up 1.8 per cent from the last survey), with smoothfm finishing in third place with 9.4 per cent (down 0.2 per cent).

Interestingly, there were no significant losses across the breakfast slot, with 2CH 1170 taking the biggest hit at -1.3 per cent to 2.8, Triple J down -0.8 per cent from 4.4 per cent , and smoothfm down -0.5 per from 8.0 per cent.

Drive spots didn’t report huge losses either, with Triple M down -1.7 to 4.9 per cent, WSFM down -1.6 per cent to 6.9 per cent and 2CH 1170 down -0.7 per cent to 2.5 per cent.

Breakfast

First: 2GB’s The Alan Jones Breakfast Show (up 1.2 per cent to 16.4 per cent)

Second: KIIS FM’s Kyle & Jackie O (up 1.3 per cent to 11.4 per cent)

Third: ABC Sydney’s Breakfast with Wendy Harmer and Robbie Buck (down 0.1 per cent to 10.3 per cent)

Drive

First: ABC Sydney’s Drive with Richard Glover (up 1.1 per cent to 10.4 per cent)

Second: smoothfm’s Byron Webb (up 0.1 per cent to 10.3 per cent)

Third: 2GB’s Ben Fordham – Sydney Live (up 0.7 per cent to 10.2 per cent)

MELBOURNE

It was no surprise either that Macquarie’s 3AW finished in first place overall, up 1.1 per cent to 15.8 per cent.

smoothfm replaced 101.9 Fox FM as the second top dog, with a market share growth of by 1.5 per cent to 10.7 per cent, with Gold104.3 sliding into third place with a gain of 0.8 per cent market share to 10.0 per cent.

There was a bit of movement in Melbourne’s brekkie ratings, with the biggest change coming from smoothfm gaining 1.7 per cent to 9.5 per cent and Fox FM -1.5 per cent to 8.7 per cent.

In drive, the most notable movements came from 3AW gaining 1.9 per cent market share to 12.7 per cent, and smoothfm 91.5 gaining 1.6 per cent to 9.6 per cent.

Breakfast

First: 3AW’s Ross and John (down 0.4 per cent to 19.5 per cent)

Second: smoothfm’s Mike Perso & Jennifer Hansen (up 1.7 per cent to 9.5 per cent)

Third: Fox FM’s Fifi, Fev & Byron (down 1.5 per cent to 8.7 per cent)

Drive

First: 3AW Drive with Tom Elliot (up 1.9 per cent to 12.7 per cent)

Second: Fox FM’s Carrie & Tommy and Hughesy & Kate (down 0.9 per cent 10.6 per cent)

Third: Gold’s Gavin Miller (up 1.0 per cent to 10.2 per cent)

BRISBANE

In Brisbane, 104.5 Triple M was the biggest winner overall taking 12.6 per cent of the share, slightly down (-0.4 per cent) from last month, taking over from Nova. 

Hit 105 and Nova 106.9 share the second spot with 12.4 per cent of the listener share each.

The biggest movement this survey by far was Hit 105 with an overall increase of 1.6 per cent.

Breakfast

First: Nova 106.9’s Ash, Kip, Luttsy & Susie (down 0.5 per cent to 12.4 per cent)

Second: Hit 105’s Stav, Abby & Matt (up 0.8 per cent to 12 per cent)

Third: 104.5 Triple M’s The Big Breakfast with Marto, Robin & Nick Cody staying the same as the last survey at 11.7 per cent.

Drive

First: Nova 106.9’s Kate, Tim & Marty and Fitzy & Wippa (up 0.2 per cent to 16.4 per cent)

Second: Hit 105’s Hughesy & Kate (up a whopping 2.6 per cent to 14.2 per cent)

Third: 104.5 Triple M’s Kennedy Molloy (down 0.8 to 12.3)

ADELAIDE

ARN’s Mix 102.3 once again snatched the top spot for Adelaide with a 0.4 per cent rise in its market share to 14.0 per cent.

HIT 107 moved into the next best spot with 10.4 per cent (up 0.3 per cent), and ABC Adelaide moved into the top three spot with 10.2 per cent audience share (up 0.8 per cent). 

Breakfast

First: ABC Adelaide’s Breakfast with Ally Clarke (up 1.4 per cent to 14.7 per cent)

Second: Mix 102.3’s Jodie & Soda (up 0.2 per cent to 13.5 per cent)

Third: FIVEaa’s David Penberthy and Will Goodings (down 1.3 per cent to 11.1 per cent)

Drive

First: Nova 91.9’s Kate, Tim & Marty (down 0.4 per cent to 13.7 per cent)

Second: Mix 102.3’s Will & Woody (up 0.1 per cent to 12.7 per cent)

Third: Hughesy & Kate (up 1.6 per cent to 10.9 per cent) 

PERTH

In Perth, Mix 94.5 once again dominated with 15.8 per cent of the overall audience share, up 0.2 per cent from last month. Nova 93.7 came in second with 12.3 per cent share, the same as last month.

ABC CLASSIC saw the biggest movement, unfortunately downwards, losing 1.0 per cent of its audience share (-1.0 to 2.3 per cent overall).

First: Mix 94.5’s The Big Breakfast with Clairsy, Matt & Kymba (down 0.3 per cent to 14.8 per cent)

Second: Nova 93.7’s Nathan, Nat & Shaun (up 0.4 per cent to 13.2 per cent)

Third: 6JJJ’s Breakfast with Ben Harvey & Liam Stapleton (up 0.5 per cent to 11.2 per cent)

Drive:

First: Mix 94.5’s Kennedy Molloy (up 0.6 per cent to 15.2 per cent)

Second: Nova 93.7’s Kate, Tim & Marty (down 1.1 per cent to 13.3 per cent)

Third: 6JJJ’s Drive with Veronica Milsom and Lewis Habba (down 0.2 per cent to 11.2 per cent)
