Radio Ratings: Nova, Alan & Kyle All Take A Hit

The day you’ve all been waiting for is finally here: GfK radio ratings survey 1 results are in.

After a lengthy Christmas break, the first radio ratings survey for 2019 has been released.

And, while the report clearly shows Nova took a big hit (especially considering the last survey they came out on top), as did 2GB’s Alan Jones, it’s certainly not the only interesting findings to be gleaned from the report.

B&T has created a detailed rundown for each of the metro markets, so you don’t have to. Check out where the radio industry currently stands below.

SYDNEY

Unsurprisingly, Macquarie Media’s 2GB remained in top spot overall with 13.4 per cent – down 0.5 per cent on the last ratings survey.

smoothfm has snared the second spot from ABC Sydney, with 9.7 per cent (up 0.6 per cent from the last survey), with ABC Sydney finishing in third place with 8.9 per cent (down 0.3 per cent).

There were also some significant losses across the breakfast slot, including Nova’s Fitzy & Wippa (down 2.0 per cent to 6.4 per cent), Triple M’s Moonman in the Morning (down 1.5 per cent to 4.7 per cent) and 2GB’s Alan Jones (down 1.3 per cent to 15.2 per cent).

Drive spots also saw some big losses, with Nova’s Kate, Tim & Marty down a huge 4.3 per cent to 8.3 per cent, KIIS106.5’s Will & Woody is down 1.5 per cent to 6.9, and Triple J’s Veronica Milsom & Lewis Hobba down 1.3 per cent to 5.8 per cent.

Breakfast

First: 2GB’s The Alan Jones Breakfast Show (down 1.3 per cent to 15.2 per cent)

Second: ABC Sydney’s Breakfast with Wendy Harmer and Robbie Buck (up 1.0 per cent to 10.4 per cent)

Third: KIIS FM’s Kyle & Jackie O (down 0.4 per cent to 10.1 per cent)

Drive

First: smoothfm’s Byron Webb (up 1.0 per cent to 10.2 per cent)

Second: ABC Sydney’s Drive with Richard Glover (down 0.5 per cent to 9.3 per cent)

Third: WSFM 101.7 (up 0.4 per cent to 8.5 per cent)

MELBOURNE

It was no surprise either that Macquarie’s 3AW finished the year in first place overall, despite its market share dipping 0.4 per cent to 14.4 per cent.

101.9 FOX FM replaced smoothfm as the second top dog, with a market share growth of by 0.8 per cent to 10.4 per cent, with Nova’s smoothfm dropping into third place with a loss of 0.9 per cent market share to 9.7 per cent.

There wasn’t a lot of movement in Melbourne’s brekkie ratings, with the biggest change coming from Gold 104.3 dropping 1.6 per cent to 6.8 per cent.

In drive, the most notable movement was smoothfm 91.5, with the show’s market share dropping 2.2 per cent to 8.0 per cent.

Breakfast

First: 3AW’s Ross and John (up 0.5 per cent to 19.9 per cent)

Second: Fox FM’s Fifi, Fev & Byron (up 0.7 per cent to 10.2 per cent)

Third: ABC Melbourne’s Jacinta Parsons and Sami Shah (up 0.1 per cent to 10.1 per cent)

Drive

First: Fox FM’s Carrie & Tommy and Hughesy & Kate (up 0.5 per cent 11.5 per cent)

Second: 3AW Drive with Tom Elliot (up 0.6 per cent to 10.2 per cent)

Third: Nova’s Kate, Tim & Marty (down 0.3 per cent to 9.5 per cent)

BRISBANE

Nova 106.9 has overtaken Triple M for the Brisbane top spot, up 1.6 to 12.9 per cent.

SCA’s Triple M has move to second place with a 0.9 per cent market share loss to 12.4 per cent, with 97.3 FM taking out the third spot with a 0.7 per cent jump to 10.4 per cent, taking away Hit105’s third place ribbon.

The biggest gains in breakfast went to Nova (up 2.9 per cent to 12.9 per cent) and 4KQ (up 2.6 per cent to 10.5 per cent), while Triple M, who had the biggest brekky gains last survey, have lost 2.4 per cent market share to 11.7 per cent) with 4BC also taking a 2.4 per cent hit to 6.4 per cent.

In drive, ABC Brisbane and 4JJJ took big hits, losing 2.3 and 1.9 per cent market share 4.3 and 8.2 per cent respectively. Meanwhile, Nova made the most ground, up 1.4 per cent to 16.2 per cent, with ABC Classic also doing well with a 1.7 per cent increase to 3.6 per cent.

First: Nova106.9’s Ash, Kip & Luttsy with Susie O’Neill (up 2.9 per cent to 12.9 per cent)

Second: Triple M’s The Big Breakfast with Marto, Robin & Nick (down 2.4 per cent to 11.7 per cent)

Third: HIT105’s Stav, Abby & Matt (up 1.2 per cent to 11.2 per cent)

Drive

First: Nova’s Kate, Tim & Marty (up 1.4 per cent to 16.2 per cent)

Second: Triple M’s Kennedy Molloy (up 0.6 per cent to 13.1 per cent)

Third: Hit105’s Carrie & Tommy and Hughesy & Kate (down 1.2 per cent to 11.6 per cent)

ADELAIDE

ARN’s Mix 102.3 saw a rise in its market share (up 0.4 per cent 13.3 per cent), claiming the blue ribbon overall.

Nova 91.9 remained in the overall second this time around with 1.0 per cent ratings growth to 11.2 per cent, while HIT 107 took out the new third spot with 9.6 per cent market share (up 0.2 per cent)

In breakfast, both Hit107 and 5RN saw a 1.9 per cent growth, up to 10.4 per cent and 2.8 per cent respectively.

Meanwhile, Cruise 1323’s market share dropped 1.3 per cent to 5.9 per cent, with ABC Adelaide also taking a hit of 1.1 per cent to 13.3 per cent.

In drive, 5MMM saw a massive 2.5 per cent market share increase to 9.7 per cent, with 5JJJ also doing nicely with a 0.9 per cent increase to 9.0 per cent.

Nova 91.9 took the biggest hit, down 1.7 per cent to 13.5 per cent, with ABC Classic also losing out with a 1.3 per cent drop to 3.3 per cent.

Breakfast

First: ABC Adelaide’s Ali Clarke (down 1.1 per cent to 13.3 per cent) and Mix 102.3’s Jodi & Soda (up 0.5 per cent to 13.3 per cent)

Second: FIVEaa’s David and Will (down 1.0 per cent to 12.4 per cent)

Third: Nova 91.9’s Lewis & Lowe (up 0.1 per cent to 9.9 per cent)

Drive

First: Nova’s Kate, Tim & Marty (down 1.7 per cent to 13.5 per cent)

Second: Mix 102.3’s Will & Woody (up 0.5 per cent to 12.6 per cent)

Third: Hit107’s Carrie & Tommy and Hughesy & Kate (down 0.4 per cent to 9.37 per cent)

PERTH

Meanwhile in Perth, Mix 94.5 was able to snatch first place, beating out Nova once again.

Mix recorded 15.6 per cent market share (up 0.8 per cent) compared to Nova’s 12.2 per cent (down 1.5 per cent).

6JJJ beat Hit929 for third place with 11.0 per cent market share (up 2.0 per cent).

In breakfast, the biggest mover was 6JJJ, which experienced a huge 2.7 per cent growth to 10.7 per cent and Mix 94.5 saw 1.8 per cent growth to 15.1 per cent.

In drive, Mix 94.5 gained the most (up 1.0 per cent to 14.6 per cent) followed by ABC Classic (up 0.8 per cent to 3.5 per cent, while HIT 92.9 gained the least (down 2.9 per cent to 11.1 per cent).

Breakfast

First: Mix 94.5’s Clairsy, Matt and Kymba (up 1.8 per cent to 15.1 per cent)

Second: Nova’s Nathan, Nat & Shaun (down 1.7 per cent to 13.2 per cent)

Third: ABC Perth’s Breakfast With Nadia Mitsopoulos and Russell Woolf (up 0.6 per cent to 10.4 per cent)

Drive

First: Mix 94.5’s The Rush House With Pete Curull and Kennedy Molloy (up 1.0 per cent to 14.6 per cent)

Second: Nova’s Kate, Tim and Marty and Fitzy and Wippa (down 2.0 per cent to 14.4 per cent)

Third: 6JJJ Veronica and Lewis and Good Nights With Bridget Hustwaite (up 0.7 per cent to 11.4 per cent)
