Over60 Partners With Airbnb For Seniors

Publication Over60 today announced a first of its kind partnership with Airbnb, the world’s leading community-driven hospitality company, to help educate seniors about the benefits of travelling, engaging with new communities and generating an additional income stream.

Launched in July of 2014, Over60 has very quickly become the ‘go-to’ destination for inspiring content specifically catered to people aged over 60, living in Australia and New Zealand.

The site attracts 2.5 million visits per month and a Facebook following of over 300,000. Travel is a key pillar for the large and very engaged audience, who has the time to consume content that is specifically created for them.

Alexandra O’Brien, editor, Over60, said, “Our travel content aims to inform our audience whilst providing a forum to open up and talk about topics and issues that are relevant to them. For the most part, our audience are not just young at heart, but many are also very active and willing to go anywhere and try anything.

“More than 32 per cent of our readers travel overseas at least twice a year. The opportunity for them to be an Airbnb host is not only a financial incentive but, a way to meet new people and stay socially connected.”

Airbnb Australia and New Zealand country manager, Sam McDonagh said: “We’re really looking forward to spreading the word and educating the senior population of Australia and New Zealand about the benefits of Airbnb.

“Senior hosts are one of the biggest growth areas in our community, who have decided to list their spare bedroom or granny flat now that the kids have left home. Our hosts tell us this helps pay for their annual holiday, cover bills and household expenses.”

Over60 will support the partnership through curated rich content located on the Accommodation section of the site. Examples of content include first hand Airbnb user scenarios and travel tips and tricks aimed at informing the community about the value of Airbnb at this exciting stage of life.
