Optus Scores Broadcast Rights For Swathe Of European Tournaments & Matches

Despite its recent streaming disaster of the FIFA World Cup, Optus has sealed the local broadcast rights for all European national team football matches in a four-year deal.

The rights include Euro 2020, the Euro 2020 qualifiers, the UEFA Nations League in 2018 and 2020, the UEFA Nations League Finals in 2019 and 2021, and the 2019 Women’s World Cup, which will be broadcast on Optus Sport.

An Optus spokesperson told B&T: “Football continues to be a key pillar of our content strategy and we remain focussed on being the home of elite international football in Australia.”

The deal comes after Optus’ failure to deliver on its broadcast promises for the 2018 World Cup (which you can read about here, here and here), with SBS helping out in for both the group stages and the knockout rounds.

Meanwhile, the English Premier League will be returning to SBS next month.
