Ninja Warrior Flambés MasterChef’s Finale

Ninja Warrior Flambés MasterChef’s Finale

The unstoppable Australian Ninja Warrior has claimed yet another ratings victim, this time stealing the thunder from Ten’s jewel, its MasterChef grand final last night.

Ninja pulled in 1.54 million viewers according to OzTam numbers, while the MasterChef finale pulled an impressive but second-placed 1.3 million.

In the cooking grand final, 29-year-old accountant Diana Chan managed to pip former model Ben Ungermann by a single point to take the MasterChef honours for 2017 and the $250,000 prize purse. Chan also wins a monthly column in News’ Delicious magazine, while Ungermann takes home the $40,000 runner’s up cheque.

Last night’s MasterChef result was well down on 2016’s 1.88 million viewers.

However, it wasn’t all bad news for Ten. Nine won the night with 31.7 per cent audience share, however, Ten managed a rare second position taking 25.9 per cent. Seven was forced to suck-up third spot with 22 per cent, the ABC had 16.1 per cent and SBS a smallish 4.1 per cent.

It will be interesting to see what Nine’s Ninja grand final can manage tonight. However, if there’s a concern for Nine it would be Here Come the Habibs!  which only managed 682,000 and doesn’t appear to getting much halo effect from Ninja.

Ten’s Have You Been Paying Attention? only pulled 583,000 last night and considerably down on its dazzling highs when it debuted around the 900,000-mark. However, it too has arguably fallen victim to Ninja’s success.

Over the ABC it’s Monday night of media included: 7pm news (752,000),  Australian Story (621,000), 7:30 (582,000), Four Corners (571,000), Media Watch (569,000) and Q&A (368,000).

Over at the SBS, Michael Mosley: Meet the Humans was its best performer despite managing only 145,000.
