Nine’s Cricket Commentary Team In Strife Over “Village” Jibe

Channel Nine’s cricket commentary team has copped the wrath of social media after Ian Chappell suggested one of the South African players had come from a village.

The player in question, South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada (pictured above), was the star of yesterday’s win over the Australian team.

It all started harmlessly enough when Chappell praised the 21-year-old’s bowling technique. However, when fellow commentator Ian Healy asked Chappell how he could have developed such speed at such a tender Chappell replied: “You’d have to ask all the batsman in his village”.

Rabada grew up in Johannesburg and attended the prestigious St Stithians Boys College in the very upmarket suburb of Sandton. The school’s alumni includes a number of international sports stars. According to his Wikipedia site, Rabada’s father is a neurosurgeon and his mother is a lawyer.
