Nine Eyeing Joint Venture With News Corp To Create Free-To-Air Business Channel

Australia could soon have its first ever commercial 24-hour business channel on free-to-air TV, with Nine reportedly discussing the possibility of part-owning Sky News Business with News Corp.

The deal that is being talked about between the two media giants includes a rebrand of Sky Business News, along with an expanded focus to cover areas such as personal finance and consumer issues in light of the banking royal commission, according to The Australian.

It’s understood the new FTA channel would take over the digital slot from Nine’s ‘Extra’, which is all about infomercials, with The Australian reporting that the joint venture will look a lot like the one Nine has with Fairfax for streaming service Stan.

Both Nine and News Corp declined to comment when contacted by B&T.
