Facebook is reportedly looking to add Network Ten and Nine Entertainment Co to its list of broadcaster partners, after last week announcing a content deal with Seven Studios.

The Sydney Morning Herald reported the social media giant is in negotiations with Ten and Nine, with news, sport and entertainment all on the agenda.

It is believed the deal would be attractive for the Australian broadcasters.

Just last week Seven West Media announced the first major content deal with Facebook in Australia, which will see Seven’s content creation division launch an array of original digital series specifically for the social media platform.

Facebook Australia also recently signed content deals with the NRL, AFL and cricket that will give the platform access to highlights footage and original wrap-up shows.

According to the Herald’s reports, the deals will require a mandatory joint press release.

Digital platforms branching into local content seems to be a trend of late, with Twitter recently signing a deal with SBS to show snippets of the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The ACCC is set to hand its Digital Platforms Inquiry to the Treasurer at the end of the month, which will assess the impact of digital search engines and social media platforms on competition in media and advertising services markets.
