News Corp To Close Commuter Newspaper mX

News Corp has this afternoon announced that it will close its free commuter travel newspaper mX. The last edition will roll off the presses on June 12.

News released a statement to the media today that read:

“News confirms the closure of mX in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. The decision is a reflection of the changing reading habits of commuters who now turn to their mobile phones and tablets on their way to and from work.

“News will continue to invest in our extensive suite of print and digital products, which are purchased and read by millions of Australians every day.”

There was no announcement on what would happen to existing editorial or sales staff or the myriad of distribution staff that hand out the newspaper at train stations and key city points.
