News Corp Accused Of Racism Over Election Coverage

News Corp’s Daily Telegraph has published a racist slur aimed at Labor frontbencher Penny Wong with a headline asking: “How did it all go Wong for Penny?”

As News Corp mastheads celebrate Labor’s loss, the Tele has been called out for its racist headline.

The article in question accused Wong of “petulant behaviour during the campaign”.

It’s not the first time the masthead has made a racist play on her name. A similar headline last year read: “Treasury says Labor in Wong on Budget papers”.

Apart from the racist slip, Ruper Murdoch’s mastheads have also been accused of biblical overtones in its celebration of the Coalition victory, pinning Scott Morrison as a “miracle man”.

The Australian portrayed the PM in biblical terms like “Messiah from The Shire”.

In Victoria, the Herald Sun turned Labor’s historic phrase “true believers” into the headline “Scomo’s True Believers.”

In Queensland, the Courier Mail hailed ScoMo’s “wave of triumph”, following a strong campaign for the Coalition’s return.
