Mel Greig speaks out on 2DayFM royal prank call

Mel Greig, one of the radio hosts at the centre of the infamous royal prank call, said she asked her bosses to alter the recording “minutes” after the call was made.

Greig spoke out on Seven’s Sunday Night last night and said she urged her superiors at the Southern Cross Austereo owned station 2DayFM to disguise the identities of the nurses before airing the royal prank call.

Greig and her co-host, Michael Christian, made a call to the London hospital where the Duchess of Cambridge was being treated for severe morning sickness.

The duo were patched through to Kate Middleton’s ward by nurse Jacintha Saldanha. Saldanha later took her own life and reportedly left behind three notes, one of which blamed the pranksters for her death.

During her Sunday Night interview Greig said she was “ashamed” of herself and that she felt like “the worst person alive”.

Barrister Tony Hurran, who is representing Greig, told the Seven program that his client has been used as “the scapegoat and the fall guy”. “The decision to was not hers,” he added.
