After 67 years of publication US satire mag MAD Magazine will cease to create new content, with August’s issue being its final edition of new material.

From September, any new issues will feature previously released content with a new front cover.

Furthermore, it will only be available in comic book stores and to subscribers.

The good news, however, is that MAD has over 550 issues to pull content from, from parodies on current affairs, politics and popular TV programmes.

The publication was known for its striking covers, which often featured its freckled, red-haired, gap-toothed mascot Alfred E.Newman.

Founded in 1952, MAD started as a comic book before transitioning to a magazine three years later.

Publisher of the mag DC told ABC in a statement: “After issue #10 this fall there will no longer be new content – except for the end of year specials which will always be new.

“So starting with issue #11, the magazine will feature classic, best of and nostalgic content from the last 67 years.”

MAD fans have aired their disappointment about the news, with many saying how important the magazine had been to them growing up.
