Why ‘Kayo Sports’ Or ‘Streamotion’ Could Be The Name Of Foxtel’s New Streaming Service

Why ‘Kayo Sports’ Or ‘Streamotion’ Could Be The Name Of Foxtel’s New Streaming Service

With Foxtel looking to launch a sports streaming service before the end of 2018, the pay TV provider has recently been active in applying for trademarks.

It all started in August, with Foxtel lodging a trademark application with IP Australia for the name ‘Kayo Sports’, under a subsidiary called ‘Streamotion’. This company name appears to be new also, according to the Australian Securities and Investments Commission database.

Foxtel was at it again in October, lodging two separate trademark applications for the Streamotion name (which you can view here and here), as well as a number of applications around logos for Kayo Sports (see here and here) and Streamotion (see here and here)

All of these trademark applications submitted to IP Australia are still under consideration, making it difficult to determine when exactly Foxtel will launch the streaming service this year. However, judging by these trademark applications, an announcement isn’t far off.

B&T has contacted Foxtel for comment.

Foxtel’s trademark moves come after Network Ten was found to have lodged a few of its own applications with IP Australia in recent months ahead of its upfronts on Wednesday.
