Speaking on the data, Facebook and Instagram group industry director Naomi Shepherd said: “Love is in the air on Instagram this year, with our global community sharing the heart emoji 14 billion times in comments, and choosing the heart-eyes as the most popular face filter in 2018.

“In Australia, #love was our most-used hashtag, reaffirming Instagram as a place to express yourself and get closer to the people and things you care about.

“Other top performers on a local level include Sydney’s iconic Bondi Beach, which ranked as the top tagged location in the country and Chris Hemsworth who has been named as the most-loved Aussie on Instagram this year.”

Shepherd added: “Instagram has long connected people and brands with unique and creative content and we’re thrilled the platform has continued to be a positive place for the Australian community.
